February 2008 Commanders Call / Staff Meeting

NewsCommanders and Staff...

Please mark you calendars for Saturday, February 23 for the next Group 5 Commander's Call / Staff Meeting. We will begin promptly at 1pm in the General Aviation terminal conference room at University Park Airport (UNV). All unit commanders or their designated representatives and GP5 Staff officers are required to attend, or if not attending, to submit your report via email by 5pm Friday February 22.

The Cadet Advisory Council (CAC) will also meet during this time, and the monthly Group 5 COF's will be conducted. All units should bring at least one CAC rep and one cadet for a COF.

TENTATIVE CADET SEMINARS (all cadet seminars are also open to senior officers)
- NCO Seminar
o A seminar that focuses its interest on the differences between an effective/non-effective NCO and the NCO Support Channel.

- Communications Seminar
o This seminar discusses what CAP’s role is in Communications, how it is rapidly changing, how to get involved, and its outlook on the future.

- Squadron Basic Training Flights
o How to organize a program that will fit the needs of your Squadron, get the program implemented, and maintain it effectively. Also outlines basic goals of the program to be used at any Squadron.

- How to Create a Squadron SOP
o Step-by-step instruction on how to form a Standard Operating Procedures booklet and customize it to fit your Squadron’s needs.

- Building your Squadron’s Team
o This seminar talks about how to build your students and/or staff into an effective team within a squadron.

- Group Leadership Project
o This is an interactive seminar that will use an example of a Group Leadership Project to demonstrate their effectiveness in almost any environment. Also focuses on how to lead a GLP most effectively.

- How to Organize and Develop an Effective ES Program
o How to organize and maintain an ES program that actually works for your home Squadron, and, more importantly, why it works.

- The Cadet-to-Senior Transition
o Life after being a cadet? What’s next? What uniform changes must I be aware of? Is being an Officer fun? This seminar will investigate these questions as well as offer a Q & A session.

- Drill & Ceremonies Myths and Legends
o Everything that has been taught to you wrong, why it’s wrong, and what it should be replaced with concerning AF Drill and Ceremonies.

- ES Specialized Equipment
o Reviewing the L-per, Little L-per, Tracker, Topographical map software, and other electronics that are new and aiding in Ground Search and Rescue. The seminar will also host a discussion on their advantages, disadvantages and limitations.

- Teaching Techniques and Learning Traits
o This workshop will help cadets strengthen their teaching abilities as well as give suggestions to create a powerful presentation and leave a lasting impression.

- Aerospace Education Seminar
o This workshop will host an interactive activity and/or discussion concerning aerospace.

- Public Speaking Seminar
o This seminar will develop public speaking skills and offer tips on how to make your presentation better. It will also investigate organizational communication.
